PCS season is a beast in the military world. Why? Because literally anything is possible.
You think you're staying where you just moved in Cali? Nope, orders to Okinawa (happened to my neighbors last year). You think you're headed back to the East Coast and closer to family instead of being in the desert in Arizona? Nope, orders to California (happened to us three years ago). You have itchy feet and you're ready for a new place and a new start? Nope, orders to stay where you are for another 3 years. If the military were a movie character, it would be Regina George.
The Marine Corps is just as big a bitch, trust me.
You see friends who you know are up for orders and you do the regular PCS convo dance.
"You get orders yet?"
"Nah, you?"
"Nope."
And so, the wait continues. Why is waiting for orders such a pain? It's all about logistics. You have to:
Find a house
Find schools for the kids
Register the kids for school
Find doctors for the kids
Set up a date to have your house packed
Set up a date to have your house goods taken
Set up a date to get your things back after they have been taken
Set up shipping a vehicle, or 2 in our case
Look for employment (for those spouses who work outside of the home)
Plan your road trip, which means setting up hotel rooms along the way
etc. etc. etc.
and NONE of this can be done without a point of destination.
Hence the craze of military spouses everywhere.
I am just READY. Ready to be able to tell our families where we are headed to next. Ready to be able to tell our kids so they can emotionally prepare. Ready to start making solid plans, not just 'possibilities'. I can literally think of nothing else. It's all consuming and it's not even a thing yet. Can a girl please get some orders?!?
