I didn't get to a Friday post last week. I was super busy, but at this moment, I literally have no idea what I was busy doing. I can't remember. My husband was still gone on a business trip from earlier in the week and heading home that day, there was a soccer game that afternoon for my oldest...maybe a workout thrown in there...other than that, no clue. I also forgot it was my anniversary (oops!)
But so did my husband, so it's a wash. Not sure what it says about your marriage when on year 11, it takes your neighbor saying, "Hey, happy anniversary!" for you to be like, "What? Oh, that's right." Although it was very funny when my husband got home and I gave him a kiss and said, "Happy anniversary babe!" all excited and the look on his face like, Oh my God...I'm in trouble...I let him stew for about 5 seconds before I told him not to worry because I forgot too. Actually, as I'm writing this, I realized I bought a gift for him that I did not give him because I kept forgetting that too. Oh well.
We were supposed to have our date hike this weekend, but that did not happen. We did, however, get to have a date night (even though it was a work event for my hubby) on Friday. There was food, drink, talking with other adults, and just me and my husband without kids for about 4.5 hours. It was great. We'll do our hike next weekend, but at least we had a night to ourselves in January, so I'm counting it as a date night for that month. The next morning, I realized I didn't take a picture of us...and we all know that if you don't take a picture, did it really happen?!
Saturday was another jam-packed day as we had tickets to Frozen at the Civic Theater in San Diego. For Christmas, the kids are old enough (at least the older 3 are) to do get experience gifts, which is something I'd like to make a regular thing. It was the kids', and my husband's, first experience with a Broadway production. It was phenomenal and they loved it. There was no photography during the show, but I wish I could have taken pictures of Scarlett's face during the show at the different parts. Such a wonderful experience as a mom to get to see the look of wonder and awe on your child's face when they see something new that they are truly enjoying. Highly recommend!
We got home from the play around dinner time and hubby cooked dinner, which is something we've started doing each Saturday night, alternating who cooks Saturday dinner for just me and him. The kids get pizza (a favorite of theirs) and my husband and I take turns picking specialty sandwiches to cook (it won't always be sandwiches, but for some reason we're on a sandwich roll...pun definitely intended). This week was his turn and he picked Monte Cristo sandwiches which turned out delicious. We threw in a family movie and called it a night.
Sunday was a day I did nothing. I mean absolutely nothing. David did work, the kids played with friends, and I was on the couch. Technically, I couldn't do anything. I was in so much pain. Each month when Aunt Flo visits, I have two days where the cramps and back pain feel like labor pains, which leaves my body utterly drained after the pain finally subsides hours later. I didn't even have the strength to cut into my pancakes. As a result, I was on the couch or our bed alllll day and it was glorious, minus the reason for me having to be on the couch or in the bed all day.
Needless to say, my self-care this week was a heating pad, junk food, and binge-watching Virgin River episodes on Netflix. Thankfully, David and I had a great time Friday night by ourselves, we had a memorable, and I do believe new yearly theater tradition, day Saturday, and a recovery day Sunday. All in all, not a bad way to end the first month of the new year.
Let's see what February brings to the table.
